Evan Stewart lands hard and stays down on third target of the night
By Sam Fariss
Star wide receiver Evan Stewart, who transferred to Oregon from Texas A&M this offseason, streaked down the field and quarterback Dillon Gabriel wound up to throw him a dart. However, the pass never stayed in Stewart's hands, the wideout went down hard, and he stayed down.
Oregon dominated the Michigan State Spartans in the first half, scoring 21 unanswered points on their first true Big Ten opponent.
The Ducks had marched down the field to the 32-yard line and it looked like Oregon might find the end zone for a fourth time in the game, however, the rough landing for Stewart killed all momentum and the Ducks had to settle for a (successful) 50-yard field goal
Stewart eventually got up on his own and walked off the field under his own power but the young wide receiver was in visible pain.
While still on the ground, it seemed as though Stewart was gripping the shoulder that he took the brunt of his landing on. However, many fans were discussing both his shoulder and back as he winced his way off the field.
Prior to the incomplete pass attempt, Stewart already caught two passes for 20 yards and 1 touchdown. After settling for the field goal, the Ducks extended their lead to 24, while the Oregon defense shut out the Michigan State offense.
With 4 minutes and 25 seconds remaining in the Big Ten matchup, the Ducks were winning 24-0. Oregon had yet to share an update on Stewart's status and the offense had yet to return to the field.
