It's the time of year where injuries can start piling up as NFL teams work through the preseason and push toward the regular season. The injury bug has hit several teams pretty hard including the Minnesota Vikings and the Buffalo Bills. Opportunities are opening for some players who are under the radar to make an impression and one has come for a former Oregon football signal-caller.
On Monday, Anthony Brown was signed by the Buffalo Bills.
The former Duck saw action in just two games in 2022 for the Baltimore Ravens when injuries hit starter Lamar Jackson. He threw two interceptions in a late season game against the Bengals. This time around, he will likely be vying for another opportunity in Buffalo, likely on the bench.
Josh Allen's backup Mitchell Trubisky went down with a knee injury and with Allen not playing this week, the Bills added Brown to the quarterback room. He will likely get playing time along with Ben DiNucci. This is another opportunity for a former Oregon Duck who had success on the field in Eugene. During the 2021 season in Eugene he went 10-4 and threw for close to 3,000 yards while using his feet to get over 600 yards on the ground.
Brown is becoming somewhat of an NFL journeyman with stops so far in Baltimore, where he was drafted, and also Las Vegas, where he was Raider for eight months before he was waived on Aug. 16. This will be the third stop for Brown as he hopes to make a roster spot on a team that already has one of the top signal-callers in the NFL in Josh Allen.
The Bills will host the Carolina Panthers for their final preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. PT. On Sept. 8, the regular season begins as Buffalo hosts the Arizona Cardinals.
