Jackson Shelstad lone recipient of regular-season Pac-12 award for the Oregon Ducks
By Sam Fariss
After 18 weeks of Pac-12 play, there are 18 players of the week and 18 freshmen of the week. Out of the 36 combined performance awards this year, the Oregon Ducks have earned one.
Freshman guard Jackson Shelstad brought home the Freshman of the Week award in the final week of regular-season play.
After recording a career-high in points against the Colorado Buffaloes and boosting the Ducks in their win over the Utah Utes, Shelstad received the well-deserved nod from the conference.
This season, Shelstad is only leading Oregon in assists, however, he’s no slouch at shooting and a determined force on defense.
Points | Assists | Rebounds | Steals | Blocks |
---|---|---|---|---|
12.7 | 3.0 | 2.7 | 0.7 | 0.1 |
With just 27 games under his belt, Shelstad has a promising future ahead of him, even once the Ducks leave the Pac-12 Conference.
Shelstad, who was raised just up the road from Eugene in West Linn, was the back-to-back Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year in high school. He was also on Team USA in the Nike Hoops Summit before joining the Ducks.
After receiving a bump up from a four-star to a five-star recruit, Shelstad committed to Oregon over other Pac-12 programs including Arizona State, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, and USC. Outside of the Pac-12, Shelstad had offers from Florida, Gonzaga, Kansas, Houston, and Texas Tech.
Heading into the postseason with Oregon, Shelstad will have to continue to shine for the Ducks to perform well in the conference tournament and, hopefully, the NCAA Tournament.
Oregon will have a bye in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament due to finishing fourth in the conference standings. Shelstad and the Ducks will face either the Oregon State Beavers or the UCLA Bruins in the quarterfinals.
