On Saturday, October 12, 2024, the college football world is going to be paying plenty of attention to Eugene, Oregon as Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks welcome the Ohio State Buckeyes into Autzen Stadium. 

This is promising to be one of the most anticipated games of the 2024 college football season and that’s for the entire country, not just the Big Ten. Sure, it is a marquee Big Ten showdown set to take place in Autzen Stadium, but it’s got a ton of national significance. 

This will be Ohio State's first trip to Autzen since 1967 and just the second time these two teams have met in Eugene. On top of that, it’s also a meeting between two of the most hyped programs entering the 2024 college football season.

When and where

Kickoff time hasn’t been set just yet, but the Oregon Ducks will face off against the Buckeyes on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Expect a primetime kickoff for this highly anticipated matchup. The game will take place in Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon.

Meet the Ohio State Buckeyes

Ryan Day enters his 6th season as head coach of the Buckeyes. While Day has done well and put up an impressive 56-8 record during his time as the head coach in Columbus, folks still aren’t thrilled because he’s yet to win a national championship. But maybe that's why he poached former Oregon Ducks and UCLA Bruins head coach Chip Kelly to be his offensive coordinator.

Implications

Okay, beyond just the Big Ten conference standings, this game could have major ramifications for the 2024 College Football Playoff race. The winner will be able to boast about having a signature victory over one of the most talented teams in the country on their resume. 

A ton of attention is going to be paid to this one. Both of these teams boast offenses that are more than capable of lighting up the scoreboard and they’ve both got solid defenses that can stymie foes regularly. It’ll be fascinating to see who comes out on top of this one. We could be in for a shootout. Or things could get jammed up a bit in a physical, low-scoring matchup. It’s hard to tell!
