Oregon Ducks drop vital game to Colorado at home
It was tied at halftime, but a final shot by Jermaine Couisnard came up short as Oregon dropped a key home game to Colorado on Thursday night.
The Ducks likely lost out on a shot at the NCAA Tournament in the process.
Oregon came into the game and needed two home wins this week to boost their postseason outlook.
It was an amazing game for N’ Faly Dante who finished a perfect 10 for 10 from the floor to go with 12 rebounds and 20 points vs the Buffs. He also had 4 assists, 5 blocks, and 3 steals including a key block down the stretch in the final minutes of the game.
The season for the Oregon Ducks has been a tough watch. They once again were all-in for most of the game.
Freshman Jackson Shelstad also played lights out. He finished with a team-leading 23 points making 3 of 7 shots from three-point range. Rebounding was the difference.
Colorado pulled down 36 rebounds to the Ducks who had 24. The Buffaloes also hit 7 of 13 free throws where Oregon had just 6 opportunities at the charity stripe hitting 4 shots. Colorado came out of halftime battling and leading a good part of the way.
They finished 6 for 8 on field goals to close out the game despite the Ducks having a chance to tie the game in the final seconds. It was a 79-75 loss to Colorado.
Ultimately the loss will not have an impact on the seeding for the Pac-12 Tournament next week in Las Vegas. While an Oregon win would have had the Ducks in position for the 3 seed with the top four seeds receiving a bye and not playing on the first day.
The loss drops the Ducks to fourth where they will be next week. Thursday night losses by Utah and UCLA mean they will not catch Oregon. The Ducks will open the Pac-12 Tournament on Thursday.
Oregon will return to the court at Matthew Knight Arena to close out the regular season on Saturday hosting the Utah Utes. Tipoff for Senior Day is set for 4 pm Pacific Time on the Pac-12 Networks.
