With the start of the 2024 Oregon football season comes a brand new video game. Well, it’s not exactly brand new, but rather it’s the latest edition in a revived franchise. Which, you know, for all intents and purposes, let’s just say it’s new.

EA Sports is giving the world a college football game to enjoy! And as the anticipation for the return of EA Sports' college football video game series continues to build, Oregon Ducks fans have plenty of reasons to be thrilled with how the game developers are viewing the 2024 edition of the Oregon football team.

Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have established themselves as one of the nation’s elite teams and as such they’ve secured a top-3 position overall in EA Sports College Football 25 preseason power rankings.

EA Sports College Football 25 overall team power rankings: Oregon Ducks near the top

The Ducks are sitting pretty in the No. 3 spot of the preseason overall team power rankings, according to EA Sports College Football 25. That ties Oregon football with the Ohio State Buckeyes (in ratings) and puts them not too far behind the Georgia Bulldogs (and just ahead of the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas Longhorns).

Here’s what the overall top 25 power rankings look like right now, according to EA Sports:

  • Georgia Bulldogs - 95 OVR
  • Ohio State Buckeyes - 93 OVR
  • Oregon Ducks - 93 OVR
  • Alabama Crimson Tide - 92 OVR
  • Texas Longhorns - 92 OVR
  • Clemson Tigers - 90 OVR
  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish - 90 OVR
  • LSU Tigers - 90 OVR
  • Penn State Nittany Lions - 88 OVR
  • Utah Utes - 88 OVR
  • Michigan Wolverines - 88 OVR
  • Florida State Seminoles - 88 OVR
  • Miami Hurricanes - 88 OVR
  • Texas A&M Aggies - 88 OVR
  • Ole Miss Rebels - 88 OVR
  • Colorado Buffaloes - 87 OVR
  • Oklahoma Sooners - 87 OVR
  • Wisconsin Badgers - 87 OVR
  • USC Trojans - 87 OVR
  • Virginia Tech Hokies - 87 OVR
  • NC State Wolfpack - 87 OVR
  • Kansas Jayhawks - 87 OVR
  • Arizona Wildcats - 87 OVR
  • Oklahoma State Cowboys - 87 OVR
  • Iowa Hawkeyes - 87 OVR

How exactly did Oregon end up in the No. 3 ranking here? Well, let’s go over that.

Offensive firepower: Ducks tied for top spot

Oregon is known for having some impressive offenses and the Ducks’ offensive prowess is fully recognized by the good folks building this game. The Ducks earned a share of the top spot in offensive power rankings, tying Georgia with a 94 rating.

Defensive dominance: Ducks boast a top 5 defense

On the defensive side of things? Well, it looks like the Oregon football team is going to be pretty good there as well. Oregon's defense would not be outshined by the offense and it ranked No. 3 overall with a 90 rating.

Autzen Stadium: A bit overlooked by EA Sports

Okay, look, if you’re an Oregon football fan and you want to complain a little, take a look at this. Autzen Stadium ranked as the No. 11 place in the game’s toughest venues to compete in. Given the way Autzen Stadium traps noise and creates an incredible game day atmosphere, it’s hard to be okay with this ranking, but this is the only area that really deserves much criticism.

Otherwise, there’s plenty to be excited about for Oregon football fans. EA Sports is providing folks with a great team to play as.
