This season, Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks football team will take on the unenviable task of traveling to Ann Arbor on November 2, 2024, to take on the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines.
This is a pretty big game for the Big Ten. It’s a big game for Oregon. It’s a big game for Michigan. It will impact the way the Big Ten race unfolds and it’ll also impact the way the College Football Playoff picture looks late in the season.
This matchup between two of college football’s most prominent programs will certainly be something worth watching. So, let’s take a look at what this game looks like.
Historical Context:
Oregon is looking to even up the series here. There aren’t many games in this series, but the Ducks are looking to make things even (and get a third straight win over Michigan in the process). Right now, the all-time series between Oregon and Michigan stands at 3-2 in favor of the Wolverines. But, Oregon has done well to win the last two meetings between these two teams. Let’s go for three in a row, shall we?
Current program trajectories
Michigan is fresh off a national championship run. Obviously that program is in a pretty good spot. I mean, there are a lot of fresh faces on that team now after Jim Harbaugh and a few key contributors left for the NFL, but the Wolverines are in a solid spot as Sherrone Moore steps in as the head coach in Ann Arbor. It’ll be interesting to see how things change with the Wolverines moving forward.
Meanwhile, Oregon enters into the 2024 season as one of the most intriguing teams for this season. Dan Lanning has built the Ducks into a national title contender for this season and this move into the Big Ten will be fascinating to watch. If Oregon can continue to build upon the momentum they have, this program will be in a great spot for the foreseeable future.
Michigan vs. Oregon summer preview, prediction
I think the Ducks win this one. I really do. I think, had these teams met up last year, Oregon would’ve lost. I feel confident in saying that. But with this one, the Oregon Ducks should be able to get a road win here. Now, a lot of things could change between now and November when these teams end up meeting up, but the Ducks are boasting a high powered offense and are looking like a national title type of team. I think Michigan takes a slight step back this season with all of the changes that have happened in Ann Arbor.
