Oregon Ducks news: WBB gets first Pac-12 wins, Lanning gets 5-star WR transfer
By Sam Fariss
Oregon’s women’s basketball team faced the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday night and walked away with their first Pac-12 victory this season. They then hosted the Arizona Wildcats on Sunday.
The Ducks, experiencing an unusual struggle in conference play, have dropped games to Oregon State, No. 2 UCLA, and No. 9 USC.
The women turned it around when ASU visited Matt Knight Arena, winning 65-53. Against Arizona, the Ducks continued their rediscovered success, winning 70-68.
Due to severe weather, the University of Oregon campus was closed on Sunday meaning that no fans were in attendance for the Ducks’ loss to the Wildcats.
Oregon now sits at 11-7 overall and 2-3 in the Pac-12.

Dan Lanning, who stole Duck fans’ hearts last week when he confirmed he would be staying in Eugene, made their hearts grow three sizes on Thursday when receiver Evan Stewart committed to transfer to Oregon.
Stewart has two years of eligibility remaining after playing at Texas A&M in 2022 and 2023.
In his sophomore season, he caught 38 passes for 514 yards. He was a five-star prospect coming out of high school and 247sports rated him as a five-star transfer out of A&M.
Defensive back Evan Williams declared for the NFL Draft Sunday morning. Williams accounted for a team-leading 82 tackles in 2023, followed by inside Jeffrey Bassa who will return in 2024.
N’Faly Dante, senior center for the Ducks, made his return to the court in Saturday’s matchup against the Cal Golden Bears. Dante clocked in for 17 minutes, earning 8 points and 2 rebounds.
Oregon defeated Cal 80-73 and is currently the only Pac-12 team that is undefeated in the conference. The Ducks play the Colorado Buffaloes on Thursday, Jan. 18.

Washington cornerback Jabbar Muhammad was able to lockdown Oregon star receiver Troy Franklin in the teams’ two matchups in 2023. Muhammad has since entered the transfer portal following head coach Kalen DeBoer’s exit to Alabama.
The Ducks, as well as the Texas Longhorns, have reached out to Muhammad in hopes of bringing him into their secondary unit.
DeBoer touched down in Tuscaloosa and was greeted with an all-star welcome by Crimson Tide fans.
ESPN’s Chris Low and Mark Schalbach reported that DeBoer’s new contract is more than double that of his previous contract with the Huskies.
