Oregon football 2024 summer opponent preview: Meet the Boise State Broncos
By Ethan Lee
The second foe on the 2024 Oregon football schedule is the Boise State Broncos. While these two teams are seemingly worlds apart in talent as they exist right now, the Broncos have (on more than one occasion) proven themselves to be a really accomplished underdog that routinely shocks folks.
And that has, in the past, included the Oregon Ducks. Which isn’t great.
It’s a small sample size, but the Ducks have actually never beaten Boise State. Up to this point in time, Oregon is 0-for-3 in games against the Broncos. There’s a good chance things change a bit this season given how talented this particular Oregon football team is.
Let’s learn more about the Broncos ahead of this matchup.
Head Coach: Spencer Danielson
This isn’t technically his first season as the head coach of the Boise State Broncos, but Spencer Danielson is going into what is his first full season as Boise State's head coach. Last season, Danielson took over as the interim head coach and ended up leading the Broncos to a 3-1 record, including a Mountain West Conference championship. More or less, that was enough to earn him the full-time position.
Historical Win-Loss Record
While the Boise State Broncos aren’t the most prominent college football program ever, they are pretty accomplished. The Broncos boast an impressive all-time record of 491-187-2 (.724) and they’ve managed to be one of the most intriguing programs college football has seen over the past couple decades.
2023 Boise State football record
During the 2023 Boise State football season, the Broncos went 8-6 (which is a really weird record, to be completely honest). But, Boise State did manage to win the Mountain West Conference and this is a team that has some potential to compete at a high level in that conference race again heading into 2024.
Conference: Mountain West
Since 2011, Boise State has been in the Mountain West Conference and the Broncos have been a force, winning three conference championships and appearing in the conference championship game a total of six times.
Location: Boise, Idaho
Boise State University, unsurprisingly, is located in Boise, Idaho. The Boise State Broncos football team play their home games (on a blue field) in Albertsons Stadium, which is located right next to the Boise River.
