With the Oregon Ducks football team moving into the Big Ten, the Ducks get the chance to take on the Purdue Boilermakers on October 18 in a Friday night showdown. Oregon hasn’t really played Purdue on many different occasions, so now seems like a great time to get familiar with the Boilermakers ahead of this season.

Here’s what Oregon football fans need to know about the Purdue Boilermakers heading into the 2024 Oregon football season.

Purdue Boilermakers head coach: Ryan Walters

Purdue is led by Ryan Walters, who is heading into his second season with the Boilermakers and he brings a bit of a defensive-minded approach to this team (though he does have Graham Harrell running the Air Raid as his offensive coordinator).

Historical win-loss record

There’s a lot of history to Purdue football. Some of it good. Some of it not so good. Up through the 2023 Purdue football season, the Boilermakers have recorded an all-time program win-loss record of 641-597-48, which equals out to a .517 winning percentage.

2023 season record

The 2023 Purdue football season was, uh, not great. The Boilermakers had to deal with a few injuries and just never really got any sort of rhythm going. As a result, they ended up recording a 4-8 record in Ryan Walters’ first season with Purdue.

Conference: Big Ten

The Purdue Boilermakers have been a member of the Big Ten Conference for quite some time and they’ve been able to enjoy being in one of the most prestigious and competitive college football conferences longer than some programs have been able to exist. Purdue’s relationship with the Big Ten runs all the way back to 1896 (though that’s because Purdue was in the Western Conference which later became the Big Nine and then so on and so forth).

Location: West Lafayette, Indiana

Purdue happens to be located in West Lafayette, Indiana and the campus is roughly 65 miles northwest of Indianapolis. Purdue football games take place in Ross-Ade Stadium and the home field for the Boilermakers boasts a capacity of over 61,000 fans.
