Oregon football 2024 summer opponent preview: Meet the UCLA Bruins
By Ethan Lee
There’s a lot of new that Oregon football will experience during the 2024 Oregon football season, but the Ducks are going to be seeing a few familiar faces here and there. In fact, the first conference game of the Ducks’ 2024 schedule features a matchup against an old Pac-12 foe.
For the Ducks’ first Big Ten conference game of the 2024 Oregon football season, Dan Lanning and his team will get to meet up with the UCLA Bruins in the Rose Bowl down in California. Let’s take a closer look at the Bruins and go over a few things that Oregon fans need to know about this longtime foe.
UCLA Bruins head coach: DeShaun Foster
For the 2024 season, the UCLA Bruins will be under new leadership as Chip Kelly is out and off to another Big Ten school that we’ll be talking about soon enough. DeShaun Foster, a former UCLA running back and NFL player has earned the opportunity to lead his alma mater and he’s doing just that. Foster is heading into his first season as a head coach, which does bring a little bit of uncertainty as he takes over, but he seems like a great fit for leading the Bruins.
Historical win-loss record
The UCLA Bruins are a pretty prominent college football program and they boast a decent all-time record, all things considered. Over the years, UCLA has managed to rack up an all-time record of 637–446–37 which results in a .585 winning percentage. Throughout their history, UCLA has managed to win 17 conference championships and the Bruins do have a national title to talk about, but it was all the way back in 1954.
2023 UCLA football record
In the last season of the Pac-12, the UCLA Bruins weren’t great. Chip Kelly and the Bruins only managed to finish with an 8-5 record and UCLA went 4-5 in Pac-12 play. But, for the most part, it seems like the Bruins have been steady and winning eight games isn’t a bad thing. It’s just not a great thing.
UCLA vs. Oregon all-time record
Right now, the all-time series between the UCLA Bruins and Oregon Ducks isn’t in Oregon’s favor. The Bruins are currently holding a 40-32 advantage over Oregon. That said, recent history has favored the Oregon football team.
- Oregon has won 4 of the last 5 meetings
- The Ducks have claimed 9 of the last 10 matchups
- Since 2000, Oregon holds an 11-5 advantage over UCLA
It’s only been a little bit since these two teams last played as they met back in 2022 when the Oregon Ducks secured a 45-30 win over Chip Kelly and the Bruins in Autzen Stadium.
Conference membership: Big Ten
Both the UCLA Bruins and the Oregon Ducks migrated on over from the Pac-12 and will be in the Big Ten moving forward. Which, that adds a fun dimension to the longstanding rivalry as both teams were able to make this sort of move.
Location
The University of California, Los Angeles is unsurprisingly located in Los Angeles, California. The UCLA football team gets the honor of playing their home games in the iconic Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
