3 Idaho Vandals players to know in 2024

As the Ducks get set to face off against the Vandals, here are three key players on the 2024 Idaho roster that Oregon football fans should be aware of. And, well, the Ducks are probably keeping an eye on these guys.

No. 1: Jack Layne - Quarterback

Heading into the 2024 season, the Idaho Vandals lost their starting quarterback from 2023 as Gevani McCoy transferred on over to Corvallis to play for the Oregon State Beavers. His backup, though, was Jack Layne, who stands at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds and seems to be a solid sized quarterback. His playing time was limited last year and this matchup against Oregon might give him a shot to showcase his skills on a massive stage.

No. 2: Jordan Dwyer - Wide receiver

With guys like Hayden Hatten gone from Idaho’s passing attack, it seems likely that the Vandals will turn to someone like Jordan Dwyer to set up and help this offense move along. Dwyer doesn’t have the sort of experience that Hatten brought to the table, but at 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, he’s got a solid build and should be athletic enough to make some interesting matchups for defensive backs in the open field if he’s lined up in the right spot to succeed. Last season, Dwyer caught 20 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns (that last of which is good for second-most on Idaho’s roster last season).

No. 3: Tommy McCormick - Defensive Back

Over on the defensive side of things, Tommy McCormick brings plenty of experience to the Vandals’ secondary. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 206 pounds, McCormick is built to match up well against receivers. Last season, McCormick did pretty well at that, recording five pass break ups to go along with his 62 tackles and three tackles for loss.
