Oregon Ducks vs Idaho Vandals: Summer preview and predictions
This game against the Idaho Vandals, like the entirety of the history of this series, should be one-sided and dominated by the Oregon Ducks. But, well, here are a few factors that might come into play as the Ducks host the Vandals to start the 2024 Oregon football season.
Program levels
Idaho has shown some improvement at the FCS level and the Vandals are better off competing against teams of that caliber. The Oregon Ducks, though? They’re operating on a completely different level right now. Oregon is a national title contender at the FBS level. There’s a massive gulf of talent, resources, and overall program strength that exists between these two teams.
Home field advantage in Autzen Stadium
This game is going to be played in Autzen Stadium. Which, to be completely honest, it really wouldn’t matter where this game was played given the immense talent differential at play here, but this is a factor that will make things even more difficult for the Vandals to be able to contend. This is one of the most formidable home field advantages in college football. Oregon football fans will help create a raucous environment that makes things challenging for the Vandals.
Historical dominance by the Ducks
Again, it’s worth noting that Oregon has historically dominated this series. When the two teams last met back in 2004, ORegon won convincingly, by a score of 48-10. More than likely, what we’ll see is something similar again.
Oregon vs. Idaho prediction
Given everything in play here, even with the Vandals taking steps forward as a program, they’re not remotely near where the Ducks are. This game will almost certainly be over by the time the first three or four drives are done for Oregon.
Score prediction: Oregon Ducks 56, Idaho Vandals 6
Don’t expect Idaho to really hang around in this one. It should be lopsided in a hurry. Will Stein and the Ducks offense will have the chance to show off how quickly they can score. Expect them to score rather frequently here. This is a great opportunity for Oregon to fine tune a few things and get younger players some playing time before diving into the Big Ten this year.
