There’s a really good chance that Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel will be receiving Heisman Trophy hype all throughout the upcoming season. And as the 2024 college football season continues to get closer, Oregon Ducks fans should be thrilled at the fact that Pro Football Focus (PFF) discussed Oregon’s new quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the context of a Heisman Trophy.

As PFF analyst Mitch Kaiser discusses, Gabriel is entering into the 2024 Oregon football season with some really good Heisman Trophy odds.

And generally speaking, any time you can be listed in the context of competing for (and maybe winning) college football's most prestigious individual award is a good thing for a college football player.

The former Oklahoma Sooner (and new Oregon Duck) is joining a remarkable group of contenders for this season, including Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck, Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish quarterback Riley Leonard.

Gabriel has had a truly impressive career, but he was strong last season and performed really well (all things considered) in Jeff Lebby’s offense. Gabriel's impressive 2023 stats justify his inclusion on this list because he was truly great, throwing for 3660 yards and 30 touchdowns against just 6 interceptions.

Any time you can get through a season without throwing more than six picks is pretty great for a quarterback to have.

Now, it’s worth bringing Lebby back up for a brief moment because there are some concerns about whether or not that system adequately equips a lot of talented quarterbacks for succeeding in the NFL. But, this season will give Gabriel a chance to prove his success isn’t just attached to Lebby’s system.

This is also a great shot to showcase Gabriel’s talents outside of the quarterback-friendly systems he’s played in throughout his career.
