Oregon football history: Ducks looking for first win vs. Boise State Broncos

The Oregon football program has won a ton of games, especially over the past couple decades. But the Oregon Ducks have yet to secure a win against the Boise Sate Broncos.

The Oregon Ducks football program is known for being forward thinking, innovative, and captivating. This is a program that has a rich history, but is often more focused on what the future holds for the Ducks. And so far, the Oregon Ducks are still looking for a win over a team they don’t share a lot of history with.

While the Ducks have long-standing series against teams like Oregon State and UCLA, the Oregon football history with Boise State is very brief (and somehow lopsided in a manner that doesn’t look great for the Ducks).

Let’s go over the history between Oregon and Boise State.

Oregon football history vs. Boise State: Broncos have had the upper hand against Oregon

In total, there have been three meetings between the Oregon Ducks and the Boise State Broncos. That’s it. Just three games between these two teams. They’re really not that far from each other, but they haven’t met on the gridiron all that much.

And all three of their meetings have occurred in the 21st century. And unfortunately for Oregon football fans, the Ducks are still searching for their first win against Boise State.

The series began in 2008 in Autzen Stadium in Eugene. But despite the home field advantage and the offensive trends that were developing with the Ducks with Mike Bellotti and Chip Kelly, Oregon fell to Boise State in a close contest, with the final score being 37-32 in favor of the Broncos.

Which, you know, is suboptimal.

That happened to be Bellotti’s last season as the head coach of the Ducks and Kelly assumed the role a season later. He also had a shot to take down Boise State a season later and came up short once more as Boise State won by a score of 19-8.

Then, eight years later, Mario Cristobal (who had taken over as the head coach for Willie Taggart who left for Florida State) had a shot to beat Boise State in the Las Vegas Bowl. And unfortunately for the Ducks, that game ended up as a dud as well with the Ducks losing 38-28.

Oregon Ducks vs Boise State Broncos football series summary

  • First Meeting: September 20, 2008 (Boise State won 37-32)
  • Last Meeting: December 16, 2017 (Boise State won 38-28)
  • Total Games: 3
  • Oregon's Record: 0-3
  • Largest Margin of Victory: Boise State, 11 points (19-8 in 2009)

The Boise State teams that Oregon lost to in the past had dynamic coaches and were phenomenal squads that shook up the way people viewed underdogs in college football. That’s not exactly the case with Boise State this year. And also Oregon is a really good team. So… Maybe this awful streak ends?
