Oregon football still has 4th-best odds to make 2024 playoff
Four weeks into the 2024 season, one could say that Oregon football has been slightly underwhelming.
It's not unfair to say that more was expected from the Ducks early on, but it looked like they truly turned the corner against Oregon State in Week 3 before an early-season bye. The Ducks struggled in the opener against Idaho, winning by just 10. Then they needed a fourth-quarter comeback to beat Boise State in Week 2. But the thrashing of Oregon State felt much more normal.
Dillon Gabriel has looked like one of the best players in college football and he has the fifth-best odds currently to win the Heisman Trophy but the Ducks have gone from preseason No. 3 all the way to No. 8 despite being 3-0 with two double-digit wins.
Sometimes it's not about the win, but how good you look during it.
Despite this lack of love from AP voters who have dropped the Ducks five spots following a 3-0 start and a bye week, Vegas is still very high on them.
In fact, DraftKings updated its futures bets for college football and Oregon has the fourth-best odds in the country to make this year's playoff field. The Ducks are behind just Ohio State, Georgia, and Texas with -400 odds. They're also right ahead of Alabama.
Fourth-best odds to make the playoff a fourth of the way through the year is great, but what about to win it all? DraftKings has Oregon at +1000 to win the national title which is good for the fifth-best odds behind Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, and Alabama. Not sure why Alabama has better odds than Oregon to win it all but not to make the playoff, but I'm guessing it has something to do with a tougher schedule in the SEC.
So before anyone panics about Oregon's slow start, just know that Vegas still loves the Ducks.
