Oregon football summer opponent preview: Meet the Michigan Wolverines
By Ethan Lee
Heading into the 2024 Oregon football season and it’s pretty clear that the Oregon Ducks football team will be pretty focused when the Ducks get a big matchup against the Michigan Wolverines on November 2 at the Big House in Ann Arbor.
This will be a huge test for the Ducks as they enter the Big Ten this season. And, well, it’s also a big game on the national and conference level. This game could have a significant impact on the way the Big Ten championship race and College Football Playoff picture end up looking.
Let’s get to know the Michigan Wolverines, shall we?
Michigan Wolverines head coach: Sherrone Moore
Now entering his first season as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, Sherrone Moore takes over the program following Jim Harbaugh's departure to the NFL. The Wolverines are coming off a historic 2023 season that involved winning a national title and Moore was the OC that helped make that happen.
Win-loss record
For those that are unaware, the Michigan Wolverines are among the biggest brands in college football and they’re certainly one of the most successful programs around. They boast an all-time record of 1,004-353-36 and claim a dozen national championships (including last year’s 15-0 unblemished season).
Michigan vs. Oregon series history
There aren’t many games to look back on as you examine the series history here. The sample size is just pretty small, but the all-time series history between the Oregon Ducks and Michigan Wolverines sits in Michigan’s favor by a 3-2 margin. That said, Oregon has won the last two meetings between these two teams.
- September 20, 2003: Oregon 31, Michigan 27 (Eugene, OR)
- September 8, 2007: Oregon 39, Michigan 7 (Ann Arbor, MI)
Here’s to hoping for three in a row in what could theoretically become something of a rivalry here in the Big Ten.
Location: Ann Arbor
The University of Michigan is located all the way up in Ann Arbor, Michigan and the Michigan Wolverines play in Michigan Stadium (which is also sometimes referred to as the Big House because it is an absolutely massive behemoth of a college football stadium).
