Ranking the Oregon Ducks defensive coordinators from the last decade
By Sam Fariss
The 2019 Oregon Ducks were one of the best squads that the program has seen in a long time. With returning stars like Troy Dye and Justin Herbert, the Ducks were seemingly unstoppable and that was in large part due to the defensive dominance.
Defensive coordinator Andy Avalos coached Oregon to a 12-2 overall record, including six wins where the opponents scored just single-digit points.
No. 20 Montana and unranked Colorado scored only 3 points each against the Ducks in 2019. Nevada, Stanford, and Arizona only put up 6 points in their games against Oregon.
In 2020, Oregon returned to the Pac-12 title game and defeated USC 31-24 to repeat as conference champions.
Avalos accepted the Boise State head coaching job after Oregon's shortened 2020 season before returning to a defensive coordinator role at TCU.
