Special teams star and Swiss army knife Jamal Hill heading to the Houston Texans
By Sam Fariss
Jamall Hill was a Swiss army knife for the Oregon Ducks and now he’s heading to the Lone Star State. The Houston Texans selected Hill as the 188th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Throughout five years with the Ducks, Hill saw the field for more than 500 special teams snaps and could truly be used anywhere.
A versatile player, the linebacker also played 60 games on the defensive end of the ball for Oregon.
Since 2019, Hill had 145 career tackles, 15 pass deflections, 2 sacks, and 2 interceptions while playing for the Ducks.
Notable, the interior linebacker had 4 forced fumbles throughout his collegiate career.
The Texans drafted Hill in the sixth round of the draft, making him the eighth Duck selected over the three-day stretch. He was the sixth former Oregon player drafted on Day 3.
Hill is heading to a Texans team in desperate need of depth at the linebacker position.
Currently, Houston only has six linebackers actively on its roster. Hill will be joining Christian Harris, Azeez Al-Shaair, Jacob Phillips, Neville Hewitt, Henry To’oTo’o, and Del’Shawn Phillips in the LB locker room for the Texans.
During his time in Eugene, Hill shifted from defensive back to the inside linebacker position, highlighting his adaptability on the field.
Last season, he played in 382 defensive snaps for the Ducks and earned an impressive 76.7 tackling grade from PFF as well as a 71.6 pass-rushing grade.
