A stumbling block for Dan Lanning has been finding consistency against Jonathan Smith over the last two seasons, however, it was while he was with the Oregon State Beavers.

Smith was able to recruit many of his former Beavers to transfer to East Lansing with him, using the portal to create an impressive force on the Spartans’ defense.

Beyond the former Oregon State players joining Smith at Michigan State, there are two players who could truly shock the nation in 2024.

Edge rusher Quindarius Dunnigan and cornerback Jeremiah Hughes should be standout defensive players for the Spartans this season.
