The 2028 recruiting cycle is about to become a major focus for head coaches as the 2027 season begins. After the Summer saw nearly every top recruit in the 2027 class lock in a decision, the only recruiting in that cycle will be teams looking for flips. The Oregon Ducks don't have a commitment thus far in the class, but all signs point toward this being an incredible cycle for the program.

Oregon is pushing for a National Championship this season, which will make gamedays in Eugene busy as top recruits will want to come get a glimpse at the program. The coaching staff has already done a great job building relationships and setting gameday visits, and it could all start for the Ducks at quarterback.

Josiah Boyd continues to look like Oregon's next QB commit

Thus far, 7 of the top 10 quarterback recruits in the Country have announced commitments, creating some urgency for the schools without a commitment, and the players who haven't announced. The top uncommitted quarterback recruit in the Country is California native Josiah Boyd who's become a top target for the Ducks.

When asked what Oregon could do for an encore in the 2028 cycle after landing Will Mencl in the 2027 class, Rivals recruiting insider Greg Biggins pointed to Josiah Boyd, whom he compares to Jayden Daniels when the two were at the same stage in their development.

"How about a guy named Josiah Boyd? He's a top 5 quarterback for us, he's got tremendous upside and long-term potential, I've comped him to Jayden Daniels at the same stage of their development. "

According to Rivals' Recruiting Rankings, Josiah Boyd is the 31st ranked player in the Country, the 2nd ranked quarterback in the class, and the 3rd ranked player out of California.

Oregon has done a great job building an early relationship with Josiah Boyd, and from the moment the staff truly entered this recruitment, the Ducks have been a school to watch. Josiah Boyd has taken visits to Eugene, and when Boyd was offered, he declared that the Ducks were his favorite school as a kid, boosting Oregon's chances.

"I've already got a prediction in for the Ducks right now, Josh. I don't do a lot of early picks, but I think Oregon's in a good spot. It is his childhood favorite school. They made a big push. He's already been on campus. He's got a game day visit set up already."

Winning out in the recruitment of Josiah Boyd won't be easy as there's plenty of suitors who will push the Ducks. In-state USC is seemingly out now after landing Trey Wright, but in-state UCLA could become an even bigger factor if Kenny Chesney shows promise in Year 1. Will Stein at Kentucky is also making a push for Boyd while Lane Kiffin and LSU will get him on campus for a visit this fall.

The sooner Oregon can lock in a commitment the better as quarterbacks become the top asset when it comes to recruiting other players. The Ducks will look to lock in a commitment this Fall, and start forming the 2028 class around a quarterback.
