Heading into the 2026 college football season, there's one expectation for Oregon Ducks fans: win a National Championship. After a few runs to the College Football Playoff, it's no longer a notable achievement, and with this roster, anything short of a championship will feel like a failure. This roster certainly has the talent to reach that goal, and it very well may be the best that Dan Lanning has had at Oregon.

Dante Moore, A'Mauri Washington, and Matayo Uiagalelei all pulling their names out of the NFL Draft gave the Ducks 3 likely 1st round picks back in the fold. Dan Lanning also recruits at an elite level, especially in the Transfer Portal, further adding to the high end talent on this roster. If some of the former 4 and 5-star recruits hit the next level, there won't be any holes on the team.

Rival Big Ten coach declares Oregon the best roster in college football

On Monday, Athlon Sports released its yearly article where rival coaches speak about the rosters in their conferences. When asked about the Oregon Ducks, a rival Big Ten coach declared that the roster may be the best in college football.

"That might be the best roster in college football, with the returners they have on the D-line and the back end, with the addition of Koi Perich from Minnesota — and then offensively, they basically return everyone but Malik Benson, Kenyon Sadiq and a couple running backs, but they played three running backs all year. They lose a couple O-linemen, but I think they feel fine about it. (Dante Moore) was the best quarterback we faced last year."

The praise for the defense isn't what you'll hear the most about nationally, but this unit will be one of the best in the country. Returning A'Mauri Washington, Matayo Uiagalelei, Teitum Tuioti, and Brandon Finney Jr among others is arguably the best core for any unit in the country.

The addition of Minnesota safety Koi Perich to this defense is going to draw a ton of buzz, and rightfully so. The Ducks just made the same move last season adding Dillon Thieneman and the move was a home run for both parties. If Perich returns to his freshman form, he'll give the Ducks an elite playmaker in the back end to go with all the talent in the front 7 which will allow him to make plays in all the ways Thieneman was able to.

The biggest key is going to be how the offensive line gels, but the anonymous coach saying Oregon feels fine about it is likely true. Dan Lanning brought in some solid transfers who will likely start, and how they develop in the system this offseason will be key. True freshmen Immanuel Iheanacho and Tommy Tofi could certainly factor into the unit as Tofi has impressed at camp while the former comes to Eugene as an elite 5-star talent.

With the high praise for Dante Moore, the weapons around him are going to have to play at a high level. The return of Evan Stewart doesn't get enough attention, and if he can on the same page with Moore it could be the best QB-WR duo in the country. It's rare to lose a 1st round talent like Kenyon Sadiq, but the hype for Jamari Johnson is off the charts.

Everyone knows that the Ducks have an elite roster, but it'll be Dan Lanning's job to ensure all the pieces come together the right way. This team has all the talent to win a National Championship, and if they can't get the job done it could be several years before Dan Lanning has a team this talented again.
