Pro Duck Satou Sabally poured in 25 points as the Mercury took down the defending champion New York Liberty and Sabrina Ionescu at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix Friday night, 106-91.
Sabally connected on 7-10 from three-point range while her team set a new club record for threes, burying 18-39. They beat the champs for the second time in eight days, winning 89-81 in the Brooklyn Thursday June 19.
The win climbed the Mercury to a 12-4 record, second in the WNBA West behind 13-2 Minnesota.
For New York Ionescu continued to struggle with her shot, held to nine points on 2-9 shooting. Another Duck, teammate Nyara Sabally, Satou's sister, continues to thrive in her emergency starting role, hitting 6-7 from the floor for 16 points and pulling down six rebounds in just 22 minutes.
While Ionescu tries to play through a neck injury, the Liberty have lost three of four, two of three on this current road trip. They return to action Sunday with a game at Atlanta, noon on ESPN3.
