In the tunnel before the game at Kinnick Stadium, Dan Lanning told his team, "You've got to take what you want."

In the pink locker room a moment earlier, he said to them, "A warrior doesn't seek comfort, men. A warrior smiles at discomfort. This is the environment we were meant to compete in."

As they have in their nation's best 11-straight road wins, the Ducks embraced the conditions and the challenges of playing in a hostile environment. They were prepared both the noise and the physical style of their opponent.

They were prepared for a four-quarter effort and the pressure of a close game. Playing without four of their best players on offense they ground out six explosive plays and 15 first downs and put together a decisive 10-play drive in the final 1:51 to beat the Hawkeyes at their own game.

The resilience they displayed is a direct result of their mindset, united in one purpose despite discomfort and pressure. This is a team that's preparing to play their best football in November and beyond. They embrace adversity, almost invite it at times.

When it comes, they make it part of their plan.

Today P.J. Fleck spoke to the media ahead of this Friday's game at Oregon and he praised Lanning for the connection he builds within his team.

"I think Dan Lanning doesn’t get enough credit for how he connects that football team, how invested they are, how good they are, how well they play collectively together — especially on the defensive side of the ball," Fleck said.

"We know he’s a really good defensive mind. He’s a great person, he’s a great coach. But when you’re talking about the defensive side, they have incredible talent over there."
