Duck fans who checked in on Sunday football got some consolation from a couple of all-time favorites.
In Tampa, Oregon single-season receiving record holder Tez Johnson went deep on 2nd and 11, dove and flipped into the end zone to pull down a 45-yard touchdown from Baker Mayfield, his first as a pro.
It gave the Buccaneers a 27-19 lead, still holding as the game enters the fourth quarter in a battle of 4-1 NFC teams.

Johnson's flair for the big play and the tough-to-cover crossing routes would have been huge for the Ducks yesterday, but it's delightful to see him make big plays as he pursues his NFL dream.
Further south in Miami, Justin Herbert and the Chargers faced 2nd and 10 on their own 41 with 33 seconds to play trailing 27-26. Dropping back Herbert shook off a tackler and found Ladd McConkey in the left flat, who zoomed up the left sideline for 42 yards and a first down at the Dolphin 17.
Three running plays centered the football while taking the clock down to :09 seconds. Cameron Dicker calmly connected on his fifth field goal of the game without a miss. The Bolts won 29-27 to reach 4-2 and a tie with Denver for first place in the AFC West.

In London another of the Ducks three NFL starting quarterbacks, Denver's Bo Nix led a field goal drive in the fourth quarter to edge the New York Jets 13-11. Nix tossed a touchdown pass in the first quarter to tight end Nate Adkins.

In his second pro start Dillon Gabriel completed 29-52 passes for 221 yards but lost 23-9 to Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers.
In the first quarter Derrick Harmon combined for a sack on his old teammate.

Gabriel experienced the full misery of playing for a downtrodden 1-5 franchise. His running game produced just 65 yards on 17 carries and he was sacked six times.
