The Oregon Ducks head into the 2026 college football season with true National Championship or bust expectations. After back-to-back trips to the College Football Playoff, it's now the expectation to make the Playoff, not a goal. Given how much talent returns from last seasons team, this is a roster with more than enough pieces to go on a run to the National Championship.
Getting Dante Moore, A'Mauri Washington, and Matayo Uiagalelei all to pass up on the NFL Draft to return to school was a bigger win than any possible transfer. Add in the experienced starters like Dakorien Moore and Brandon Finney Jr among many others who return and this may be the most talented roster Dan Lanning ever has at Oregon.
Heading into the season, the Big Ten schedule is always tough which will be the Ducks biggest hurdle to overcome. The Ducks will face College Football Playoff hopefuls in USC, Ohio State, and Michigan along with darkhorses like Washington, Illinois, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State in Non-Conference play.
Given how tough some of the games on Oregon's schedule could be this season, there are 3 Big Ten games where Oregon truly can't afford to suffer a loss as it could end the Ducks hopes of winning a National Championship.
The 3 Big Ten games Oregon should dominate in 2026
UCLA Bruins - October 10th - Autzen Stadium
The UCLA Bruins aren't going to be a doormat in the Big Ten for long as Bob Chesney has already started to show that he's going to build the Bruins back into a serious program. This season, Chesney will still be working with a ton of pieces left behind from the past era which could be a setback. Oregon is far more talented than UCLA on paper this season, and with the tougher games at the end of the Big Ten slate, the Ducks need to win this game.
Northwestern Wildcats - October 31st - Autzen Stadium
Northwestern exceeded expectations last season going 7-6 and 4-5 while being far more competitive than most expected. This season, Oregon will be facing a former friend when they face the Wildcats as Chip Kelly is back to coaching in the Big Ten as Northwestern's OC. While the Wildcats will continue to be competitive in conference play, losing this game would be an absolute disaster for the Ducks with Ohio State and Michigan as the two games that follow it.
Michigan State Spartans - November 21st - East Lansing, MI
In a similar fashion to the UCLA game, Oregon is facing Michigan State as a new head coach takes over at the helm, and it may only be up from here for the Spartans. Pat Fitzgerald was constantly viewed as one of the best head coaches in the country during his time at Northwestern, and he should get Michigan State back on track. This is a vastly new roster with all the transfer movement, but Oregon should still have a major advantage in the talent department.
