The injury bug has gotten into the Oregon Football team, and each week the team is seemingly suffering massive setbacks due to injury. This week brought the news that safety Aaron Flowers would miss the rest of the season due to surgery, while Dante Moore remains sidelined with his concussion. While there's been injuries all around the roster, the wide receiver room has been getting decimated as of late.
In shocking fashion, Oregon lost Jeremiah McClellan to a broken foot suffered in warmups prior to the Portland State game. The Ducks were already playing shorthanded at the position, and then Evan Stewart landed on the initial injury report as questionable. On Thursday, the Ducks downgraded Stewart to doubtful, and now it appears that he'll miss the Nebraska game.
The Ducks simply can't point to Messiah Hampton as the replacement for Stewart, as he's already filling in for the injured McClellan. This weekend, Oregon is going to need to find someone who can step into a starting role with the offense already struggling, and someone will have a chance to grab a bigger role the rest of the way.
The 3 Ducks wide receivers who could start if Evan Stewart's sidelined
Jalen Lott - Freshman
- 2026 Stats: 1 catch for 6 yards
There was incredible preseason hype for Oregon 5 star signee Jalen Lott, even with the fact that he was a late enrollee. The hype for Lott was slowed due to the fact that he needed hand surgery, but he finally debuted last weekend with a catch for 6 yards. Now that Lott is healthy enough to play, Dan Lanning and the staff may look to see what he can do in an expanded role, with the offense looking for answers.
Iverson Hooks - UAB Transfer
- 2026 stats: 1 catch for 6 yards
Given all of the talent that Oregon had coming back at wide receiver, the Ducks didn't need to go out and add any via the Transfer Portal, but the staff still added UAB star Iverson Hooks. Coming off a 927 yard season, Hooks was expected to make a big impact to the point that he was named to the preseason Biletnikoff Award watchlist. Hooks hasn't had much of a chance to prove himself this season, but if Stewart is ruled out, he could finally start to push for playing time.
Gatlin Bair - Freshman
- 2026 stats: 3 catches for 25 yards
Dan Lanning and his staff signed Gatlin Bair as a 5-star recruit out of High School, but he often flies under the radar due to the fact that he took a year off to serve a mission. The Ducks have gotten glimpses of Bair's ability in the Portland State game, but as the injuries continue to pile up, Bair is slowly moving up the rotation. Given the fact that Bair missed a year away from football, getting him more reps will only help him regain the form that made him such a highly sought after recruit.
