Part of what makes college football so special is the long standing rivalries and traditions that make the sport far different than in any other league. The Oregon Ducks are a program with historic traditions with the first season being played back in 1894. Ever since the Oregon Ducks arrived on the college football scene, the program has changed the landscape of the sport, but some of the traditions have started to morph into myths as the program becomes more popular.
The 3 Oregon traditions that many misunderstand
Shout is actually a newer tradition
The most well known tradition at Oregon is the playing of the song Shout between the 3rd and 4th quarters of every home game. While Shout is the most famous Oregon tradition, there's often a misconception that it's a long standing tradition. The Ducks play the song Shout in a nod to the movie Animal House which was filmed on campus in 1977 and released in 1978.
Given when the movie was released and filmed, most outsiders assume that the Ducks have played the song for decades. Instead, Oregon adopted the tradition of playing Shout in 2010, making it a very new tradition for the Ducks.

It sometimes rains in Autzen Stadium
If you attend a game in Autzen Stadium or watch on television, you'll often hear that "It Never Rains in Autzen Stadium". The phrase became famous when Oregon banned umbrellas from the stadium leading to longtime public address announcer Don Essig getting creative, telling fans not to worry as It Never Rains in Autzen Stadium. While the phrase has become synonymous with Oregon football, every once in a while, a storm will pass through Eugene which dispels the myth.
The Oregon Duck wasn't the first mascot to perform pushups for points
The hijinks of the Oregon Duck mascot make him one of the most popular mascots in sports, and certainly in college football. One of the Ducks' most famous traditions is performing pushups for every point the team has scored in the game after each time the team scores. While many associate the act with the Duck, the Clemson Tiger was first to perform the act in 1978.
