The last two days have been incredible for the Oregon Ducks versus Oregon State Beavers rivalry. The NCAA Baseball committee showed a flair for the dramatics, placing the Beavers in the Eugene Regional despite the fact that none of the ranking projections had the two sides meeting up. Now this weekend could give us several matchups between the Beavers and Ducks with major implications as both teams could go far in the NCAA Tournament.
The news of a potential postseason clash between the In-State rivals came with the guarantee of a future clash between the two teams. Mark Wasikowski shared after the bracket was revealed that the Ducks and Beavers agreed to a 3-game series with a home game for each side and one neutral site game.
Considering that the baseball teams were already keeping the rivalry alive, and the basketball teams continue to play each other, the only sport left to add to the mix was football as the two sides wouldn’t play each other in this upcoming season.
After the news of the upcoming baseball series, we called for a return to the gridiron rivalry, and on Tuesday the schools delivered.
The Oregon Civil War will return in 2028
On Tuesday, Oregon announced that the Ducks and Oregon State reached an agreement for the In-State rivalry to return to the gridiron, scheduling 4 games in 2028, 2029, 2031, and 2032.

There was no reason given for the fact that the game won't be played until 2028 or why the series takes a stop for a year in 2030, but the news is a big win for the state of Oregon.
Rather than the two teams beating up on far inferior opponents to avoid potential losses, playing the In-State rival is a much better outcome. The fans will now get a game for bragging rights, rather than having to watch a game that will likely be meaningless in Non-Conference play. The rivalry should've never paused, but the game coming back in the future is perfect news.
Conference realignment should've never killed key rivalries in the sport, and while this one will pause, the return of the series is a return to what college football should be all about. Fans should be able to watch their team face the In-State rival on a yearly basis, and now the hope will be that The Civil War is here to stay for a long time.
