The Duck losing his head is a good omen for the Oregon football team

The Oregon mascot losing his head (literally) didn't end badly for the Ducks last year. It shouldn't be a bad omen this year either.

Less than a year ago, the Oregon mascot tripped and lost his head before the Ducks shut out the Purdue Boilermakers on the road.

Now, just a few moments before the Oregon Ducks kicked off their season opener against the Montana State Bobcats, history repeated itself, with the beloved Duck mascot losing his head as he ran out of the tunnel and onto the field.

While this might look like one of the worst possible omens that a team could receive before a game, fans should learn from the past and realize, it might be a sign of good things to come.

After the Duck lost his head before the Purdue game, Oregon went on to demolish the Boilermakers, winning 35-0. Then, the Ducks finished the regular season with a 12-0 overall record before going on to win the Big Ten Championship Game against the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Sure, against Purdue, the Duck was accidentally taken out by Oregon defensive back Sione Laulea. However, the mascot popped right back up and continued to storm down the field alongside his teammates.

Simply put, last year wasn't anything to scoff at, even if the Ducks didn't finish the season with the highly coveted National Championship in their possession.

To open the game against Montana State, the Ducks took less than three minutes to find the end zone, with running back Jayden Limar bursting past defenders to find the end zone. Then, just two and a half minutes later, tight end Kenyon Sadiq caught a pass from Dante Moore for Oregon's second touchdown of the game.

While the Duck losing his head might look (and sound) a little bad, it might be exactly the good omen that the No. 7 Oregon Ducks need to kickstart their season.
