The Duck takes a plunge as Oregon track sparkles at historic Twilight meet

A silver medalist at the Pan American Games from Alberta, Canada, and Rapid City South Dakota, Simeon Birnbaum set a new meet record in the 800 meters at the Oregon Twilight Meet on Friday, scorching the track in a personal-best of 1:44.67.

Duck teammates Bodey Lutes and James Harding ran a second behind him to complete the sweep.

In all the Oregon track team took 11 events in the storied event, a tradition that dates back to June 2, 1966 when Dyrol Burleson outdueled Roscoe Divine in the featured mile, setting a stadium record of 3.57.3.

The Ducks swept the men's and women's events in the 1500, with Sunset High School product Beni Balazs winning the men's in 3:36.23 and Silan Ayyilidz pacing the women in a time of 4:06.97, her best of the season.

Lily Jones won the 100 meters in 11.52, while Marie Josee Bovele-Linaka hurled the discus 190 feet, 7 inches for first place, a season best. Ben Smith and Kobe Lawrence finished one and two in the men's discus.

In the shotput Taylor Wiseman took second place with a personal best throw of 49 feet, 9.25 inches.

The Duck celebrated the performances with a swan dive into the water jump on the steeplechase course.
