On any given Saturday in the fall, while the Oregon football team might have most of everyone's attention, it's hard not to get distracted by Oregon's mascot, The Duck. The costumed Duck mascot for Oregon is hilarious, as the antics he pulls off during and leading up to a game are second to none.
Originally created in 1940, the Oregon Duck was licensed with Disney allowing the mascot to resemble Donald Duck. Once created, the rest became history, as The Duck has become a staple not just at Oregon, but an icon in college sports.
The Duck earns his rightful place atop college football mascot rankings
On the latest episode of The Andy (Staples) and Ari (Wasserman) On3 podcast, the show ranked the college football's greatest costumed mascots. Ari Wasserman made the right decision, naming The Duck as the best mascot in college football
"When you ask the question who are the most iconic mascots that's the one that jumped into my head first."Ari Wasserman.
While Andy Staples and producer River Bailey made the wrong decision not naming the Oregon Duck their best mascot, he wasn't far behind. The Duck finished 3rd on Bailey's list trailing Western Kentucky's Big Red and Toledo's Rocky the Rocket while Andy Staples ranked The Duck 2nd behind Michigan State's Sparty.
"The Ducks is probably the most active mascot during games in college football. Does push-ups, gets into all kinds of mess with other mascots, rides in on the back of a motorcycle, so many things the Duck has going on. I think the Duck is the most versatile, and multi-talented mascot there is."Andy Staples
"I don't think you can make a list leaving the Duck off."River Bailey
The Duck is rightfully being acknowledged for how great he is on a weekly basis, and it's certainly deserved. While everyone's counting down the days until the Ducks are back in Autzen Stadium, we're all secretly counting down the days until The Duck rides out with the team.
