At CBS Sports College Football, betting and analytics expert Mackenzie Brooks revealed the five college football teams with the best chance to make the College Football Playoff. Three are from the Big Ten.
Ohio State, Penn State and Oregon have the highest probability in the country to make the playoffs, followed by Texas and Notre Dame.
Top 5 Probabilities to make the College Football Playoff
1. Ohio State 83.3%
2. Penn State 81%
3. Oregon 71.8%
4. Texas 70.4%
5. Notre Dame 68.2%
"The thing about the Big Ten this year.is that they only play three nonconference games, so they have a lot more separation. You know you see a lot more parity in the SEC and other conferences."
Brooks, a Georgia grad, leans heavily into the "SEC gauntlet" theory.
"So Ohio State we like the most to make it to the Big Ten Championship, because of the insurance they have on their schedule," Brooks said. "Texas as a nonconference game. They have some really hard road games, and we think they're going to win them all, but it's going to look good on their resume."

"Penn State, very similar situation as well. Of course, Oregon, your big three we're always going to like the best."
"Notre Dame, we give such a high chance because we like them against Miami so much. We do not like Miami, haven't been high on them. I will say if you lose to Miami that 68 goes to a 35, just by essentially when the start of the season ends."
No. 6 in the AP Poll just ahead of Oregon at No. 7, The Irish travel to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami to face the Canes on Sunday August 31, in college football's Week One, a 4:30 p.m. kick on ABC. ND is a three-point favorite.
The day before on Saturday August 30, No. 1 Texas and No. 3 Ohio State clash in the biggest of Big Noon kickoffs in the Horseshoe at 9 a.m. PT on Fox. The Longhorns are a 2.5-point underdog, the first time in history the AP No.1 has been a dog in their opening game.
With No. 9 LSU traveling to No. 4 Clemson in a clash of Tigers, the Top Ten is due for an immediate shake-up.
