The attention for the Oregon Ducks has quickly turned from the 2027 recruiting class to the 2028 class as the Summer draws to a close. The coaching staff did an incredible job throughout the Summer locking in commitments from most of the Ducks' top targets in the 2027 class, and as the group is nearly complete, Oregon can look to start building the 2028 recruiting class.
The position that any program will look to address first in a class is quarterback, as they quickly become the biggest recruiters alongside the coaching staff. While it's still early in the 2028 cycle, the one quarterback who's been tied to the Ducks the most is California Native Josiah Boyd. When the Ducks offered Boyd, he shared that they've always been a dream school, and some of Rivals' insiders are already predicting the Ducks will win out.
This Fall will be critical for recruiting Boyd along with every other target in the 2028 cycle, and while Oregon may lead, this won't be an easy battle.
Josiah Boyd sets Oregon visit with two rivals closing in
The program that Oregon's seemingly been pitted against the most in this recruitment has been the Kentucky Wildcats, led by former Ducks OC Will Stein. On Wednesday, Rivals' Greg Biggins revealed Josiah Boyd's visit schedule for the fall, and the recruitment may be taking a concerning turn. Boyd will visit Oregon, but he'll also visit USC and UCLA for games along with LSU.

The USC Trojans haven't offered Josiah Boyd a scholarship yet, but UCLA has as they're becoming a fixture in the race. Considering that the Ducks have mostly been up against Kentucky, they seemed to have the advantage of being close to home, but the two California Big Ten teams entering the race eliminates that pull.
Lane Kiffin and LSU are going to be tough to beat out in any recruitment in their own right, especially if the Tigers get off to a great start under the new regime this season.
Oregon will get its chance to really sell Josiah Boyd on Eugene on September 19th, which is the Friday Night matchup against Portland State. Ideally, the Ducks would've gotten Josiah Boyd on campus for a bigger game with a crazier gameday environment but, getting him on campus at all is a benefit.
According to Rivals' 2028 recruiting rankings, Josiah Boyd is the 29th ranked player in the class, the 2nd ranked quarterback in the class, and the 3rd ranked player out of California.
This Fall will be telling with where the Ducks stand in this recruitment, as programs like USC will have to eventually go all-in if Boyd is their top target. The Ducks are equipped to battle any program on the recruiting trail, and if USC or UCLA becomes the biggest competition, the staff has already shown they can win that level of battle.
