Oregon football season is finally back, as the Ducks are just hours away from kicking off the season against the Boise State Broncos. The season begins with a ton of hope as the Ducks are one of the favorites to win the National Championship. Over the last two seasons, Oregon has won the Big Ten and made back-to-back trips to the College Football Playoff.
Heading into the season, it's going to be hard to feel excited about any accomplishment that isn't a National Championship, given that it's the lone goal left to accomplish. This team has all the pieces you could ask for, and falling short of winning it all would be another heartbreaking end to the season.
College GameDay provides promising Big Ten prediction with major caveat
On Saturday Morning, the College GameDay crew unveiled their predictions for the upcoming season. Guest Picker and Country Music star Lainey Wilson, along with Desmond Howard, picked the Oregon Ducks to win the Big Ten Championship this season. Nick Saban sided with Ohio State, while Pat McAfee and Kirk Herbstreit picked a repeat title for Indiana.
While the predictions to win the Big Ten are great, and every fan would be happy to win the conference, the real goal is finally bringing a National Championship to Eugene. When the National Championship predictions were unveiled, not only did no one pick the Ducks to win it all, but none of the panelists put Oregon in their National Championship Games.
Failing to make the National Championship would feel like a failure to take a step forward as Oregon has already won the league and made Playoff runs under Dan Lanning, but the Ducks are still looking to make the Championship Game. Getting as many players as the Ducks did back to campus, but not finding a way to make it to Las Vegas would feel like a missed opportunity as it's hard to build a roster this talented.
The good news for the Ducks is that they're the ones who control what the conversation will be at the end of the season. Dan Lanning will have a chance to use the predictions as motivation, and keep the team focused on doing what they need to win it all.
