Urban Meyer has nothing but good things to say about the No. 1 Oregon Ducks
By Sam Fariss
The Ducks have gained the respect of the nation as they have blown past opponents and made their entrance into the Big Ten. Even former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, who beat Oregon in the 2015 National Championship, has tipped his hat to the Ducks.
The Big Ten Network has created a segment for Meyer, who is also on FOX's Big Noon Kickoff every Saturday, called Urban Analysis, where he breaks down the key features of top teams. Most recently, Meyer broke down the Ducks' defense and its dominance.
From Jordan Burch's unstoppable attack on offenses to the Oregon secondary's ability to stop any air raid effort, the Duck defense has been insurmountable. Meyer points toward the Ducks' love for one another as a contributing factor to their dominance, which is a reflection of what head coach Dan Lanning has said in the past.
Through Oregon's first 10 games of the year, not only have the Ducks gone undefeated but the defense has allowed a minimal 16.0 points (ninth in the nation) and 293.7 yards (ninth in the nation). The defense has amassed 27 sacks, 15 fumbles, and five fumble recoveries βΒ not to mention nine interceptions.
As Oregon prepares to visit the Wisconsin Badgers in Week 12, the Ducks have a great opportunity to climb even farther up the defensive rankings. The Badger offense has struggled to find consistency throughout the first two-thirds of the year and has averaged just 25.1 points per game (94th in the nation).
If Oregon can trounce the Badgers the same way that the Ducks have stormed passed their post opponents, the team's No. 1 ranking will be further cemented and Meyer's praise of the defense will be even more validated.
