Dan Lanning and the Ducks are recruiting the best player in eight different states.

Thursday Joe Spears of USA Today listed the best player in each state, and Oregon is leading or competing for a dozen on his list. The Ducks range from Florida to New York, Texas to Washington to Hawaii in search for talent.

It's a reminder of how well Oregon recruits and evaluates; the effort they make to find great players. They have to, because in a typical year the state of Oregon produces no more than two to five major college prospects.

Oregon 2026 Targets, best in state

California Ryder Lyons Folsom Quarterback 6-2.5 215

Hawaii Talanoa Ili Kahuku Linebacker 6-3 215

Missouri Jackson Cantwell Nixa Offensive Tackle 6-7 300

Nevada Jett Washington Bishop Gorman Las Vegas Safety 6-5 200

New York Messiah Hampton James Monroe (Rochester) Wide Receiver 6-0 170

Oregon Tony Cumberland Willamette (Eugene) Defensive Lineman 6-4.5 285

Tennessee Jared Curtis Nashville Christian (Nashville) Quarterback 6-4 225

Washington Derek Colman-Brusa Kennedy Catholic (Burien) EDGE 6-4 230

Oregon's reach exceeds this attempt to grasp it. In North Carolina, for example, the best player is quarterback Faizon Brandon, Rivals' No. 2 overall prospect. He's a Tennessee commit. The Ducks have a commitment from tight end Kendre Harrison, No. 22 nationally and No. 2 in the Tarheel State, a major college prospect in football and basketball. He wants to play both in college.

Currently Oregon has commitments from eight players, all of them blue-chips. Two of those have moved to Eugene in Cumberland and Viliami Moala. Three are from California, one each from Florida, Texas and North Carolina. Five rank in the Rivals 150.

In 2025, Lanning landed the No. 5 recruiting class, 20 players from 13 different states. They signed four five-star players, Trey McNutt from Ohio, Na'eem Offord from Alabama, Dakorien Moore from Texas and Douglas Utu from Nevada. Four-star Cooper Perry was the No. 1 ranked player in Arizona, a 6-2 wide receiver.
