It isn't often that a player for the USC Trojans makes a comment about Oregon and, in response, the Ducks smile.
However, when this transfer safety for the Trojans was talking about the rest of his season and what he's looking forward to most, the ears of Oregon Ducks across the country perked up.
Bishop Fitzgerald transferred to play for USC this offseason after starting his collegiate career at JUCO and then spending two years with the NC State Wolfpack. In his debut for the Trojans, he earned just four total tackles but did bring down an interception, which he returned for a touchdown.
However, Fitzgerald is now in hot water with the USC fanbase after he was asked what he was looking forward to about being in the Big Ten.
"Playing at Oregon," Fitzgerald said. "Every kid dreams of Oregon, their jerseys, the stadium, all of that."
Oh? Coming out of high school, Fitzgerald didn't receive any Division I offers, but after playing at Coffeyville Community College, he earned 26 offers, including ones from NC State, Arizona State, Washington State, and more.
Did the Oregon Ducks offer Bishop Fitzgerald?
Then, he transferred to play for the Trojans. You notice who never offered him? The Ducks. Yet, while playing for one of Oregon's biggest conference rivals, he had unending praise for the program that, apparently, even the Trojans dream about playing for.
This year, the Trojans come to Eugene, and Fitzgerald will, luckily, get to have his dreams come true as he steps foot onto the field at Autzen Stadium, surrounded by green and yellow.
No. 6 Oregon and currently-unranked USC are scheduled to play on Saturday, Nov. 22, and the kickoff time has yet to be announced. For a little reminder, the Trojans haven't defeated the Ducks since 2016, and they haven't beaten the Ducks at Autzen since 2011.
