What Penn State's win over Maryland means for Oregon's opponent in Big Ten title
By Sam Fariss
The Penn State Nittany Lions are officially set to play the Oregon Ducks in the Big Ten Championship game after defeating the Maryland Terrapins in their final game of the regular season. After Ohio State's loss to Michigan earlier on Saturday, everything was on the line when Penn State and Maryland took the field.
Despite Maryland striking first after a shocking fumble by Penn State running back Nick Singleton and an immediate touchdown by the Terrapins, the Nittany Lions ran away with the game and stormed to victory during rivalry week.
After four quarters, the Nittany Lions had a dominant 44-7 lead over the Terrapins to march their way straight to the conference title game.
The No. 1 Oregon Ducks, who had punched their ticket to the Big Ten Championship weeks before with a win over Wisconsin, awaited their opponent for the game until Penn State built up its insurmountable lead over Maryland.
The game between Oregon and Penn State will be for a bye in the first round of the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoffs. Oregon, the No. 1 team in the country, has almost undeniably punched its ticket to the Playoffs, unless something catasrophic were to happen during the end of the Ducks' season.
Oregon's final game of the regular season was against the Washington Huskies. The two bitter rivals were scheduled to kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT on NBC.
The Big Ten title game is scheduled for Dec. 7, 2024 in Indianapolis, IN. The game is scheduled to kick off from Lucas Oil Stadium at 6 p.m. PT on Saturday.
