It was just a couple of months ago that quarterback Will Howard slid to the ground as time expired and the Oregon Ducks defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes. The rematch between the two Big Ten teams when the Buckeyes lost to Michigan and failed to reach the conference title game.

However, Ohio State defeated the Tennessee Volunteers in the first round of the College Football Playoffs and now, the Ducks will face the Buckeyes once again. This time, it will be in the beloved Rose Bowl Game in the quarterfinal round of the CFPs.

Immediately after Ohio State's first-round win, the Buckeyes were already chanting "We want Oregon" from the stands. Howard had his own thoughts about the Ducks after the game.

Howard wasn't the entire reason the Buckeyes lost to the Ducks but his decision to slide as time expired effectively led to the final result. Had he slid a moment earlier or had he called a timeout quickly enough, Ohio State could have kicked a field goal which would have put them on top of the Ducks.

Yet, Howard didn't do any of those things and at the end of the regular season, Oregon went to the Big Ten Championship and maintained a perfect record after defeating the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Now, the Ducks stand as the No. 1 team in the nation with a perfect 13-0 overall record. On the other hand, the Buckeyes sit at 11-2 overall but have the first-round win boosting their confidence.

Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel and head coach Dan Lanning have talked about the Rose Bowl game as the Ducks enjoyed their bye week during the first-round games. In fact, by the time the Ducks and the Buckeyes take the field, Oregon won't have played an in-game snap for nearly four weeks.

No. 1 Oregon and No. 8 Ohio State are scheduled to kick off from the Rose Bowl at 2 p.m. PT on Jan. 1, 2025. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
