Unlike it’s predecessor the Pac 12 Network, another new sports network, Fox Sports 1 has been able to strike a deal with DirecTV among others when it goes on the air on Saturday Morning. According to Joe Flint from the LA Times, The three carriers — satellite broadcasters DirecTV and Dish and cable operator Time Warner Cable— all have agreed to carry Fox Sports 1. Those three distributors combined reach over 40 million homes.

Fox is already a household name when it comes to entertainment, sports and movies and the introduction of a new channel was an easier process than what the Pac 12 had to go through. What FOX has done is to move a channel that is already with these carriers since they have multiple to work with. Fox Sports 1 will takeover the Speed Network and integrate racing coverage along with other sports – among them of course College Football and next year Baseball.

If you get the Speed Channel right now, it will have a new name with new programming when you wake up on Saturday as Fox Sports 1.

Of course Ducks Fans this is an important step as the first game (vs Nicholls State, 1pm) and the last against Oregon State in the Civil War are both on Fox Sports 1. In case your holding out hope for a DirecTV deal, I wouldn’t hold my breath. If you haven’t seen the latest campaign from the Pac 12 it’s not going to help with negotiations.
