Michigan State’s Dantonio Mentions Oregon Matchup During Big Ten Media Day

The Pac-12 Conference wrapped up their two media days late last week with the usual fanfare of coaches and players granting interviews to media outlets from around the country. Oregon Quarterback Marcus Mariota was quite busy with twenty five interviews over the two day event and was one of the most active players in the interview process. Now, attention turns to the Big Ten as their media days have begun and will last over the next few days. Photos have surfaced on Twitter last last week of the team mascots parading around Chicago at the sites which was fun to see.

Now the fun comes to an an end and the business end begins today with coaches interviews with the Big Ten Media. Earlier in the day Michigan State Head Coach Mark Dantonio was asked about a specific matchup within the conference, the one with Michigan with which he responded with the quip of “I still live in Michigan.” He was also asked about the most anticipated matchup of the season in Week two against the Oregon Ducks and there were no quips. His comments turned serious:

Dantonio, asked about positioning for the playoffs, brings up what is the best non conference game of the season for a Big Ten team, going to Oregon in week two.

"“We’re coming with at least one bona fide big game as we move forward,” Dantonio said. “We need to gain experience from that game, win or lose.”"

The Non Conference Game of the Year has been gaining momentum over the summer and will continue to build throughout Fall camp leading into Week Two of the regular season when the Spartans take the field at Autzen Stadium against the Oregon Ducks, but first a home game for Michigan State on August 30th hosting Jacksonville State at 4:30pm PT on Big Ten Network.

The Oregon Ducks start 2014 at home hosting South Dakota at 7:30pm Pacific Time on Saturday, August 30th on the Pac-12 Networks.
