Scouting The Competition: Cal Will ‘Bear Raid’ Oregon Ducks
The Oregon Ducks face another high-powered passing Offense on the road Friday night.
The Oregon Ducks will again face an opposing Offense that likes to throw the ball around in California. In fact, the Golden Bears have had over three times the attempts through the air as Oregon. Cal has thrown the ball just over 300 times in the first six games of the season, the Ducks just over 100 times.
California averages 530 yards per game, well over half of that through the air. The Oregon Ducks allow 522 yards per contest so something has to give right? Davis Webb is running the Cal Offense to perfection throwing for over 2200 yards and 22 touchdowns. The Golden Bears are proof that the rest of the Pac-12 Conference has caught up to Oregon in ways of talent, at least at the Quarterback position.
Wide Receiver Chad Hansen has caught 8 touchdowns from Webb for 770 yards and Running Back Khalfani Muhammed has rushed for just 377 yards on the season.
The advantage for Oregon is on Defense. While the Ducks are giving up 41.2 points per game, Cal is giving up 40 points per game. Records are falling this season for Oregon and not in a good way. Washington broke through to snap the Ducks 12 game winning streak two weeks ago. Oregon holds a 7 game winning streak over California entering the game on Friday.
