Former Oregon Ducks Wide Receiver Jeffery Maehl has a new nest to report to. The former Houston Texans wideout has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, a team desperately looking for a Wide receiver after several training camp injuries – including one to their top receiver Jeremy Maclin.
Kelly and Maehl know each other from their days together at Oregon. While with the Ducks Maehl played in 52 games and caught 178 passes for 2311 yards and 24 touchdowns. He has since played in a handful of games for the Houston Texans. In the trade Houston will receive lineman Nate Menkin.
Maehl could be a a mid range or even the #2 target for Chip and the Philadelphia offense. The intrigue for college and even NFL fans surrounding Chip Kelly continues to grow in the preseason. This week he faces off with his former running back with the Ducks Kenjon Barner – now with Carolina and he may have a former Wide Receiver on the field with Maehl and add the fact that he is working with two former Pac 12 quarterbacks in Matt Barkley from USC and Nick Foles from Arizona.
It is not known yet if Maehl will be on the field for Thursday’s game against Carolina. The game is set to kickoff at 4:30PT.
His addition makes six former Oregon players joining Kelly in Philadelphia.
Safety Patrick Chung, quarterback Dennis Dixon, linebacker Casey Matthews, wide receiver Will Murphy, and defensive end Isaac Remington.
