Oregon Baseball: Ducks Stumble in Opener vs Fresno State
The Oregon Ducks Baseball team fell behind early and did not find much Offense in the loss to Fresno State.
The season was supposed to start on Friday night for the Oregon Ducks but was rained out. The game was rescheduled for a doubleheader on Sunday. Saturday saw the first game of the season. David Peterson took the mound for the Ducks. It was a rough start that lasted just four innings.
Peterson gave up five runs in the second before settling down. He gave up 8 hits and five runs. Fresno State pitcher Ricky Tyler Thomas threw six innings of two-hit ball for the Bulldogs. For the game, the Oregon Ducks had just four hits.
Daniel Patzlaff had the game highlight with a homerun in the fifth inning. Freshman Second Baseman Spencer Steer added a hit in four at bats.
Head Coach George Horton started three freshman in the opener with two infielders, Steer and Morgan McCullough. On the mound, Freshman Pitcher James Acuna was the first to follow Starter David Peterson out of the bullpen. He gave up two hits and no runs in 1.1 innings.
