The Oregon Ducks quest for the Final Four begins on Friday in Sacramento facing the Iona Gaels.

Iona has seen the postseason eleven times in their history, including this year. Their home is in New Rochelle, New York and they hail from the MAAC Conference. This year for Iona has been Tournament worthy.  The Gaels finished 12-8 in Conference and were an impressive 6-1 in neutral site games.

Jordan Washington leads the team in scoring with close to 18 points per game. Jon Severe, Ricky McGill, and Sam Cassell Jr.. all are pushing double digits per game. The Gaels average 80 points per game while giving up 76. The area where Oregon should be concerned is the Iona Defense.

The team has 235 steals on the season led by Rickey McGill with 62. Iona has four players capable of getting a turnover averaging over 30 steals each. Iona has won four of their last five games, including the final game of the regular season in overtime against Siena by one, 87-86.

Iona finished their season in third place in the MAAC at 22-12 overall behind Monmouth and St. Peter’s. The last time the team won a first round NCAA Tournament game was in 1980 over Holy Cross. Four of the last six years Iona has made the Big Dance and two years they played in the NIT.
