Oregon Ducks Keep Washington Huskies In Check For 1-0 Win
Matt Mercer pitched the Oregon Ducks out of some jams and earned a 1-0 win over Washington on Saturday.
The Oregon Ducks looked to remain in an second place in the Pac-12 in Game 2 against the Washington Huskies on Saturday night sending Matt Mercer to the mound Mercer has been solid his last three outings following in the footsteps of David Peterson, who picked up his fourth straight win on Friday night.
Matt Mercer had a rough first inning with 21 pitches giving up a hit and a walk. He finished the inning with back to back strikeouts to get out of the first inning unscathed. The Oregon Offense wasted no time with Gabe Matthews doubling down tie righr field line and scoring Jake Bennett to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead.
The Oregon Ducks clung to a one run lead through the top of the ninth. Kenjon Yovan came in to try and secure the save and put two Washington Huskies on base with one out. He struck out Willie McIver and forced AJ Graffanino to hit a pop fly to right field for the second win of the weekend securing the series vs the Washington Huskies.
Matt Mercer picked up his fourth win of the season and Kenyon Yovan had to work for his eighth save of the year for the 15-5 Oregon Ducks.
