It did not take long Monday night for Oregon Ducks Starter David Peterson to hear his name called.

Peterson has been pegged as a First Round MLB Draft pick since the 2017 season started and he earned himself a spot before the season was over. Despite the season not going as planned for Oregon Baseball and Head Coach George Horton, David Peterson was the foundation of most weekend series starts. He found ways to win and even threw multiple strikeouts in key series during the Pac-12 season.

The New York Mets called his name on Monday with the 20th overall pick in the first round of the MLB Draft. Peterson was one of those kids that when he was younger wanted to play baseball. It was in his blood according to GoDucks.com, “It’s been a dream of mine since I was 3 years old, to have this come true, it’s an honor and a pleasure, and I’m very excited.”

Peterson’s progress in three seasons with the Oregon Ducks was progressive. Each season he was better. In his Junior season, he led the team in Wins and set a new mark for Strikeouts.

Since the return of Baseball, Tyler Anderson(2011) is the only other former Oregon Pitcher to be selected in the First Round.

The hard work has just started for Peterson.

As a first round draft pick there is high expectation for the latest addition to the New York Mets organization. MLB.com believes that Peterson could move quickly up the ranks and possibly be a replacement for Matt Harvey which means a young arm in a key spot for the future.
