Oregon Football: Ducks Defense Faces Challenge vs Wyoming
Oregon Football Quarterback Justin Herbert is off to a solid start to 2017, but he play opposite experience on Saturday.
Quarterback Josh Allen is in his Junior Season with the Wyoming Cowboys. He could have been a high level NFL Draft Pick last year, but decided to return to school for another year. The last few seasons of Oregon Football have been without a solid Starter under center, but a coaching change, and a new outlook have Justin Herbert in the drivers seat. Herbert has shown he deserves to be the Starter after a 2-0 start to the season. He has shown he can make good decisions with the ball.
It also helps to have an Offensive Line that plays together. He has had time on more than one occasion to find open receivers. He will need to find them again this weekend in Laramie. Wyoming is not a place where Power 5 programs go to play, especially when they have a big homefield advantage in altitude. They also have Josh Allen.
Allen threw for over 3000 yards last season and 28 touchdowns. His Offensive Line was not great. He was sacked 27 times, but had a better than 8 yard per play average similar to what Herbert has entering the game on Saturday.
Josh Allen had a rough start to the season with two interceptions on the road at Iowa before turning things around last weekend. He was 22 of 32 for over 300 yards and two touchdowns. At home he averages over 11 yards per play and that is what the Oregon Defense will have to contend with.
Troy Dye and Thomas Graham Jr. have shown that Jim Leavitt’s first season in Eugene will find success. Graham last weekend against Nebraska had two interceptions. The Ducks Defense will need to find opportunities against Wyoming. The Cowboys fans may also have something to say. It will be a hostile environment and momentum may play a big part before all is said and done.
