Oregon Ducks Quarterback Braxton Burmeister showed some poise and accuracy on Saturday vs UCLA, but fans need to be patient.

Oregon Football is now .500 on the season after losing on the road at UCLA. They are 1-4 in the Pac-12 Conference, but true Freshman Quarterback Braxton Burmeister looked better on Saturday vs UCLA.

While the outcome was as Loss, there were some good things and obviously some bad. The good, he used his feet on numerous occasions to get positive yards. He also ran for both Oregon scores to tie the game at halftime at 14. Quarterback Justin Herbert may be closer to returning, but the trial by fire of having Burmeister as the Starter is beginning to pay dividends.

The Oregon Offensive Line did a solid job in giving Burmeister time and we finally saw a pass for the first time in a few weeks. A pass that was caught by Brendan Schooler. Burmeister was recruited as a dual-threat QB and set the record in San Diego with his arm.

For the game, he was 8 for 15 for 74 yards, but he had to start somewhere. Wearing a red jersey is an advantage for the Offense, but Defensively it limits the feel of the play. He was responsible for an interception, but the ball should have been caught by Wide Receiver Dillon Mitchell.

Progress as a fan is hard to see. On the Practice field, Burmeister has thrown hard and accurate passes. He now has a game, on the road, where he has duplicated his success. I talk about him like Oregon won the game, but when he is the future of the program and confidence doesn’t come as fast as you would like as a Coaching Staff, you take what positives you can from the experience.

Burmeister will look to build on his experience vs UCLA. Oregon returns home to host the Utah Utes on Saturday, Oct. 28th. (2:45 pm PT, Pac-12 Network)
